Due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions Northern Trains is running a very limited passenger timetable on the Settle and Carlisle Railway.
As there is currently spare capacity, Rail Charter Services are running locomotive-hauled tourist specials on the line between Skipton and Appleby. These trains have been dubbed the "Staycation Express".
There are three daily services in each direction. These are proving very popular with tourists and rail enthusiasts alike, with more than 100 passengers taking the 1Z43 from Skipton and Appleby on the day of our visit.
The trains are currently topped and tailed by class 37 locomotive number D6817 and 47593 "Galloway Princess", but the plan is to use a variety of different locomotives during the summer season.
Our video begins with 6K05, the daily departmental train from Carlisle N.Y. to Crewe Bas Hall S.S.M, thundering through Appleby platform 1 moments before the 1Z43 locomotive-hauled service is about to arrive.
1Z43 pulls into the platform and the passengers disembark. The driver of the next train, 1Z44, can be seen climbing from the cab of 47593 "Galloway Princess" at the rear of train 1Z43.
Moments earlier I was chatting to the driver, who was waiting the arrival of train 1Z43 at Appleby. When the train stopped he quickly nipped into the cab to drop off his bag, which is why he can be seen exiting the cab and walking towards the front of the train.
Once all the passengers had disembarked the train drew forward to Appleby north east sidings where it stood for half an hour before drawing forward into platform 1 as train 1Z44.
Train 1Z44 can then be seen departing from Appleby, the driver giving us a cheery wave goodbye, and disappearing into the distance.
All footage was recorded on 30th July 2020 using using a Panasonic HC-X920.
