It is a balmy Bank Holiday Monday afternoon at Settle Station on the iconic Settle and Carlisle Railway.
The weather is sweltering hot, which will be evident from the blue skies and distant haze shown in today's footage.
We begin with train 4N03, the 1127 Carlisle N.Y. to Clitheroe Castle Cement Gb, which is today hauled by GB Railfreight's 66736 "Wolverhampton Wanderers".
Next up is 6K05, the 1246 Carlisle N.Y. to Crewe Bas Hall S.S.M, which is double-headed by DBS's 66429 and Freightliner's 66507. The train is comprised of a modest rake of loaded ballast wagons.
Train 2H90, the 1318 Leeds to Carlisle, is formed of Northern Trains' Express Sprinter unit 158752. Northern's fleet has eight of these three car sets, which are mainly used to work the Settle and Carlisle and Manchester Victoria routes.
Train 6J37, the 1258 Carlisle Yard Colas Rail to Chirk Kronospan Colas Rail, passes through with its impressive load of timber. Colas Rail's 70817 is in charge today.
Finally, train 2H92, the 1518 Leeds to Carlisle, is comprised of Express Sprinter 158793. This is one of the more conventional two car sets. Northern has 45 such units, working across the whole franchise area.
Footage was captured on 31st May 2021 using a Panasonic HC-X920 fitted with a Rode VideoMic Go.
