Beamish, the living museum of the north, is a 300 acre open air museum near the town of Stanley in County Durham.
The museum's guiding principle is to preserve an example of everyday life in urban and rural North East England at the climax of industrialisation in the early 20th century.
It has the following locations, all of which are perfectly frozen in time:
- 1820s Pockerley Old Hall and gardens;
- 1900s town;
- 1900s pit village;
- 1900s colliery;
- 1940s farm.
I visited Beamish on a glorious day in May 2015, when the museum was hosting several British Empire themed events (hence the large number of patriotic Union flags on display).
The video shows a selection of photographs I took that day.
