As it was a beautiful day I thought I'd spend a few hours watching the trains at Wooden Gate Junction, half a mile south of Alnmouth Station in Northumberland.
This is the busy East Coast Mainline between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh Waverley (and beyond). At the moment the timetable is subject to a lot of changes due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Passenger traffic on this route comprises LNER Intercity 225s and Azumas, CrossCountry Voyagers and Super Voyagers, and TransPennine Express Nova 1s. Northern Rail also runs a very infrequent commuter service between the Metro Centre and Chathill, which is usually consists of class 156 DMUs, although we did not see any of those today.
There are limited freight movements during the day, but we did catch the daily 6S31 Doncaster Up Decoy to Millerhill S.S. and 4E96 Mossend Euroterminal to Tees Dock Bsc Export Berth. 6S31 is a departmental train, which today consisted of a rake of full ballast wagons. 4E96 is an intermodal train carrying containers to the docks on Teesside.
Filmed on 27th May 2020.
Below find a small selection of stills from the day.
