A revisit to Wooden Gate Junction, half a mile south of Alnmouth Station in Northumberland. Last time I visited was in the morning and I left early afternoon. This time I arrived in the early afternoon and I left after the main evening freight runs.
This is the busy East Coast Mainline between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh Waverley (and beyond). At the moment the timetable is subject to a lot of changes due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Passenger traffic on this route comprises LNER Intercity 225s and Azumas, CrossCountry Voyagers and Super Voyagers, and TransPennine Express Nova 1s. Unlike our earlier visit, we also caught a glimpse of a Northern Trains Class 158 Express Sprinter, working the evening Newcastle to Chathill (and return) commuter service.
This afternoon saw a ScotRail Inter7City set heading home to Haymarket Depot after a week of maintenance at Wabtec in Doncaster (5S01). Colas Rail Freight's 70809 - with its striking yellow/orange/black livery - headed the daily cement run from Seaham Harbour to Oxwellmains Lafarge (6S28). The final train featuring in this video is DB Cargo's 66094, hauling the steel empties from Dalzell B.S.C. to Tees N.Y (6E30).
Filmed on 29th May 2020.
Below find a small selection of stills from the day.
