34067 "Tangmere" on the Northern Belle Settle and Carlisle Steam Special

Back in operation for the first time after a major overhaul, SR Battle of Britain Class locomotive no. 34067 "Tangmere" took charge of the Northern Belle Settle and Carlisle (Leeds-Carlisle) Steam Special on this day.

My footage begins at a blustery Lancaster Station, with train 1Z40, topped and tailed by West Coast Railway's West Coast Railway's 57316 "Alnwick Castle" and 57314 "Conwy Castle" and consisting of 11 mark 1 and 2 Northern Belle Pullman coaches. It's a bitterly cold winter's day and the wind is really howling across the open platforms at Lancaster.

The train travelled the short distance north to West Coast's Carnforth Steamtown depot, where 57316 "Alnwick Castle" was swapped over with 34067 "Tangmere". My footage continues with "Tangmere" powering the train through Oxenholme Lake District on its way to Carlisle. A combination of rain and hail were falling at Oxenholme and my lens picked up a few droplets of water as I swept around following the train.

I finally repositioned to Appleby where the Northern Belle, now running as train 1Z42, was scheduled to stop for "Tangmere" to take on water. The rapid arrival of the train indicated that it wasn't going to stop after all, instead hammering straight through on its way towards Hellifield and back to Leeds.

Filmed on 24th February 2022.

Footage was captured using a Panasonic HC-VX1 (aff. link) fitted with a Rode VideoMic Go (aff. link).
