Locomotive Services Limited's 37688 "Great Rocks" made an appearance at Carlisle Station on this day.
Working as train 0Z51, the immaculate locomotive was repositioned from Carlisle's High Wapping Sidings to Stranraer, although the reason for the move wasn't entirely obvious.
37688, with its striking two-tone grey Railfreight livery with construction sub-sector decals, growled into action 20 minutes earlier than expected, so I quickly fumbled for my mobile phone. At more than 50 years old, the locomotive looked and sounded like it had just rolled off the English Electric production line.
"Great Rocks" pulled up at the shunt signal at the northern end of road A. The driver jumped out to grab some refreshments for the onward journey. After pausing for the arrival of another railwayman the locomotive growled away into the distance.
