The Royal Skips on The Spectacular Settle and Carlisle Railtour

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday at Balmoral.

I was a great fan of the Queen and my heart goes out to her family at this very sad time.

She often travelled the length and breadth of the nation using the Royal Train. In recent years the train has been hauled by DB Cargo locomotives 67005 "Queen's Messenger" and 67006 "Royal Sovereign".

These two splendid looking class 67s - nicknamed skips - are painted in Royal claret livery and were the locomotive power for UK Railtours' "The Spectacular Settle and Carlisle" railtour of 12th March 2022.

The tour travelled between London Kings Cross and Carlisle, heading via the scenic Settle and Carlisle Line in both directions.

The train stood in Carlisle platform 3 for a couple of hours, during which time the assembled enthusiasts had an opportunity to look inside the cabs of the locomotives. Full credit to the DB Cargo lads for giving a bit of their time to make the day a bit more memorable for these youngsters.

The train pulled out of Carlisle toa tone rendition of Yorkshire folk song "On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at".
